For heat and long hours, plain water is the base — and electrolytes earn their shelf space. Pedialyte and hydration packets are my ultimate go-to for my lineman when the temperature climbs.

Always pack

  • More bottled water than feels reasonable
  • Pedialyte (bottles or freezer pops if they’ll stay cold)
  • Hydration / electrolyte packets that dissolve in a bottle
  • One “treat” drink he actually looks forward to

Easy mix station at home

  1. Keep packets in a small bin next to the water case.
  2. Pre-fill a few bottles the night before a known storm window.
  3. Toss ice packs + drinks in the cooler before rest time ends.

Linewife notes

Hydration isn’t glamorous, but it’s part of the soft landing: he doesn’t have to think, and you know something helpful is already packed. Restock the bin like you restock the storm snack shelf.
